Oremus Tokaji Mandolas 2018
The name of this wine has its origin in the old way of naming the vineyard from which it comes. Mandolás is one of the vineyards of Oremus, a Hungarian winery founded by Vega Sicilia in 1993. The vineyard is planted with the Furmint grape, the main component of Tokaji sweets. That is why this Mandolás is so curious, as it is a dry wine. White that reflects the characteristics that permeate all the wines of the area, marked by the volcanic origin of its soils.
With a history of mythification quite parallel to that achieved by Vega Sicilia within Spanish wines, the whole sector agreed on the appropriateness of the acquisition of the Hungarian firm by this winery from Valladolid. In 1993, only three years after the fall of communism, the Álvarez family arrived in Hungary and founded Tokaj-Oremus Vineyards and Winery. The estate's activities are centered in Tolcsva, where - connected to the labyrinth of subway cellars existing since the 13th century - in 1999 the new winery was built. The Álvarez family devoted much attention to the meticulous and respectful study of this wine to learn about its winemaking process and its history. They also strove to preserve, as much as possible, the tradition when they directed the construction works of the new winery. To manage the new project, which revolves around one of the best located and most symbolic vineyards in the region, the Álvarez family recruited a professional team that knew the terroir very well, and sought an experienced and entirely dedicated winemaker from the area to place him at the head of this exciting adventure. The name of this wine has its origin in the old way of naming the vineyard from which it originates.
