The history of Quinta de Couselo is closely linked to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Oia.
It is located in a grandiose location, next to the Atlantic Ocean, in a rocky inlet, between the towns of A Guardia and Baiona. This monastery began to be built in 1136 under the reign of Alfonso VII.
From its origins, the monastery had links with the valley of O Rosal, where the monks acquired different properties and promoted the cultivation of vines. Among these properties was the farm named A Cheira, which is what we know today as Quinta de Couselo. In 1864 it was acquired by Don Casimiro Dorado y Méndez, and remained in the hands of the family until 2013, when Don Casimiro's great-grandchildren sold the property to Grandes Pagos Gallegos de Viticultura Tradicional. The philosophy of this wine group is to develop unique projects in those areas where the native varieties are best expressed gallegas.Finca "A Cheira" has an area of 2 hectares of vineyard composed mainly of 30-year-old Albariño vines, together with Loureira and white Caiño vines arranged on trellises. It is enclosed by the original wall built by the Cistercian monks and benefits from a special microclimate of Atlantic influence that provides mild temperatures, abundant rainfall and the hours of sunshine necessary for proper ripening of the grapes. The vineyards are located in soils of sedimentary origin, loam, rich in organic matter, acidic and profundo.Amparados under the D.O Rías Baixas, specifically in the subzone of O Rosal, Quinta Couselo has been making wines with limited productions for over 150 years.Atlantic cut white with 6 months of aging on lees that is pure explosion of sweet white flowers, tasty fruits and citrus and herbaceous notes.
